Which is better??

Post  vanessajerman on Mon Jul 12, 2010 4:31 pm

When transitioning is it better to get braids or cornrows?
I have been transitioning for 13 months and I am still not ready to BC. I want braids for the remainder of the summer but I am not sure which is best cornrows or box braids?

Braids

Either or, because what you are trying to do is minimize the times you are fiddling with your hair. Braids allow the hair to go quite a bit but you still need to do your regimen and depending on what type of hair you buy, sythetic or human, you have to make sure your hair is moisturized. Mostly because synthetic hair sucks the moisture out of your hair, leaving it dry and brittle. So everything you do with your hair not in braids you still have to do with it in braids.

Can you give me some insight on care for braided hair. I will do human hair braids but how do I care for it and keep moisturized? I am new to this. Thanks

Ok, as for me, my entire life I have had horrible dry hair in braids or just my hair let lose. All I can really tell you is just to go to sights like hairlista.com, naturalchica.com and there are many more sights like them, definitely go to youtube and you will find people taking care of their braids and the tips and tricks about it all. The main thing you have to learn about your hair is that, hair is hair and it will always grow back, sometimes even healthier than ever. I'm going through a long transitioning process and I will be cutting my natural hair little by little, and before I thought this would be horrible, but I'm even beginning contemplating the big chop. The main thing about looking through youtube is that you also have to do some research yourself, what are the ingredients of the products people use. How damaging might it be to your hair type, and so on and so forth.

some links to different videos on youtube. I typed How to take care of your braids on youtube search.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh5dN4uLOwQ -she seems very informed when it comes to washing the braids.

I hope this helps, I'm so happy we are all learning how to take care of our hair lol.

Have a Wonderful Day!
