What are our different hair types?

Post  msangie1 on Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:53 am

I have seen on various blogs that people are describing thier hair by type using numbers and letters, e.g 4b but have not been able to find a definitive list so that I can work out my own curl pattern.

Please can you or anyone else enlighten me?

Thanks in advance.

"Hair Typing" was actually started by a book written by Andre Walker. A fellow youtuber, Kimmaytube, gives a great review of the book and explains what the author originally intended by his hair typing system:

In my experience though, it really isn't necessary to know what "hair type" you have in order to know how to care for your hair. Just because a product worked for someone's hair that seems to be "similar" to yours doesn't mean that is a guarantee that it will work for your own. Have fun learning about your hair and what it likes and doesn't like : )

Youtube Guru CoilsKinksCurls does excellent product reviews. She has turned this into a business by starting a natural hair beauty supply, www.goodhairmart.com. She has a good chart to follow as well.
